Ever wonder what the data on your scan tool should be? Maybe mass air flow data or VANOS? Even idle control data is sometimes displayed in a format not easily deciphered.
This technical article defines BMW scan tool data stream desired DME data, as set by BMW. BMW calls this data set point data. This refers to the idea that these sensors (inputs) and controls (outputs) should be within this range when normal. Outside of these ranges can be considered faulty and furhter diagnosis to reach the root cause is needed.

'I have install the 1.4.0 Scanner for BMW software and connect with vehicle via USB cable, when i open the pasoft software, it displayed an error message 'Hardware Faulty'. What's the problem? The interface is damaged?'

- You forgot to install software driver.
- You should first install BMW scanner 1.4.0 software, connect with vehicle and laptop via USB cable.
- Then install software driver.
- After driver is well installed, ready to run software.
- Better use laptop running Windows XP home.
Do not open software directly after install software and connect with vehicle.
