1. Audacity: Highly recommended by the Ghostlytrue.com writer, this software is described as being easy to use. The program is available for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. It can record and edit sounds and convert them into MP3 or WAV files. Also, it has the features to cut, copy and mix sounds. Interestingly, this is one of several sound editing programs being packaged as superior EVP software (not by the software company, but by several blogs promoting belief in the paranormal).
2. Audio Spectrum Analyzer: Offered by PKI (Psychokinetic Energy Investigation). It supposedly can “analyze the sounds through a spectrogram' (it should be noted, however, that spectrograms are no longer offered on its website).
3. AoA Audio Extractor Basic: this program is described as a background audio extractor. Interestingly, it’s a program that was meant to convert audio format files; edit and change sounds and voices; and convert songs for karaoke recording. However, ghost hunters use its editing tool to extract and isolate certain sounds for analysis.
4. EVP Assistant v1.0 – Noise Generator: it is one of the few sound editing programs designed for detecting EVP. It was created by Mark Andrew Turner of the EVP Research Association UK. According to its website, it can generate noise that can be played through desktop PC or laptop speakers.
Also, according to the website, the noises are meant to be part of “inter frequency experiments” and will produce such sounds as “white noise, pink noise, brown noise, waterfall, and Spiricom.” A Spiricom is a paranormal communication device that supposedly allows the living to have a two-way conversation with spirits. The Spiricom mentioned is actually a recording supposedly made by this device. Although EVP Assistant is free, the website it’s featured on accepts donations.
5. Wavosaur Audio Editor: Like Audacity and AoA Audio Extractor Basic, this sound editing program was not designed with EVP in mind. However, Ghostlytrue.Com states that it is an “excellent choice for Free EVP recordings.”
6. EVP Maker 2.5 Software: another program made exclusively to record and edit EVPs. This program is more experimental. It provides recordings of supposed paranormal voices for one to analyze on the system (or, as they call it, “raw material” for recording). Also, according to its website, it “divides any recording of speech into short segments and then plays them back continuously in random order.” It offers the sound as background noise for EVP recordings.
“Of course, the program can also be used to generate special acoustical or musical effects,” the website also stated.

Features
- The applications now default to the 'Secure' evaluation method for new installations.
Tools → Find...now lists what was found rather than just indicating the lot, and does not include lots with 'User-Defined Information' under the 'Lots with any problems' search.- GiftVal and CostBasis can now search on lot statuses as well as names and warnings, including unpriced, user-priced, failed-price, and old-price lots.
- On the Excel (XLSX) export from GiftVal, the Basis Value column now has a sum at the bottom of the report.
- The default number of lots allowed in a portfolio has been raised from 500 to 1,000.
- Modern 'flat style' message box icons are now used on later versions of Windows.
Fixes
- File associations (.EVP to EstateVal) are now properly set up at installation time, fixing a regression in 8.5.2.
- HTML controls now always display their contents properly the first time.
- When in Demo Mode, Put/Call options and import/export usage reporting now work successfully.
- Import/export usage reporting no longer sends custom names, preventing unescaped XML entities from crashing the server-side HTTPS POST.
- Very large portfolio notes no longer overflow memory when XML entities are escaped.
- Evaluation status icons now properly show the state of lots with adjusted Alternate Date inventories.
- The EstateWorks export can now export Common Trust Funds, CDs, and Savings Notes.
- In GiftVal and CostBasis, the label 'Estate of:' is now 'Portfolio of:'.
- GiftVal now shows basis values and dates on securities with user-defined values.
