Earlier this year Avaya launched a new collaboration platform called Avaya Equinox. In this blog we’ll explain what Avaya Equinox is and what you need to get it up running.

The launch of Avaya Equinox effectively converges a slew of unified communications choices to deliver a single, all-channel calling, messaging, conferencing and collaboration solution for smart devices and room systems, including Cisco, Polycom and Lifesize.

Built on Avaya’s team engagement technologies, Equinox comes with full conference control and moderation, as well as content sharing, including the ability to receive text chat on room systems.

The new platform also converges Avaya’s conferencing and collaboration solutions (Avaya Aura Conferencing and Scopia). That makes good sense as it eliminates several softphone client options that often confused users.

It also smooths the way for companies in the process of moving to web and cloud-based applications, all but eliminating integration challenges with next generation architecture delivering unified communications (UC) functions via WebRTC or HTML5.

That means users can access their contacts, messaging, conferencing and collaboration capabilities directly from other web-based applications, such as Salesforce.com or Microsoft Office 365.

Workers will also relish the simplicity of Avaya’s one platform approach, with SIP-based Avaya Equinox clients automatically adapting to phones, tablets and browsers. What’s more, profiles follow users, providing the same user interface and account details across platforms and devices.

Equinox is now a standard entitlement with Avaya Aura systems. Customers who have upgrade entitlements as part of their software support contracts can take full advantage of the Equinox suite by upgrading to the latest release software.

The benefits are available to all businesses – not just those running Avaya Aura. Equinox can be deployed over existing telephony or UC systems and still deliver most features of a full Aura deployment.

  • CTI Control — Avaya Equinox™ for IP Office cannot be controlled through other applications such as Avaya Contact Center Select, IP Office Contact Center, or IP Office SoftConsole.

  • Branch worker — Avaya Equinox™ for IP Office does not support failover between Avaya Aura® core and IP Office Branch.

  • For Instant Messaging, Avaya Equinox™ for IP Office depends on the availability of Avaya Spacesbasic account in the Cloud.

  • The Avaya Equinox™ client accesses Avaya Equinox® Meetings Online using HTTPS, from within the Equinox Meetings tab of theclient. The Avaya Equinox™ client can access local on-premise Equinox Conferencingin the same way using HTTPS, that is, if the access URL is configuredunder Equinox Meetings. However, if the Avaya Equinox™ client accesses local on-premise Equinox Conferencingthrough SIP trunks, audio and video will be available but not sharingor conference roster. The same applies for accessing Scopia over SIPtrunks too. Even when Avaya Equinox™ client accesses local on-premise IP Office Meet Me Conferencing, audio will be available but notsharing or conference roster.
