Kindle Continuous Scrolling

Teleread brings our attention to the news that Amazon’s Kindle app for Android now supports continuous scrolling.

Continuous Scrolling - To read with continuous scrolling, tap anywhere on the page when you are reading your book. Then tap on the icon at the top of the screen to open up the menu. Tap on the Continuous Scrolling toggle switch to turn continuous scrolling on or off. Kindle for Mac doesn't have continuous scroll either, and it's so frustrating. I just sent a message to Amazon customer support about it (I used their Live Chat since emailing wasn't an option and sending feedback directly via the Kindle app didn't work and gave me an error) and requested the continuous scroll feature. Oct 08, 2018 Kindleの連続スクロールが最高!. Mar 21, 2018 Update: Vertical scrolling is now available on the Kindle app for Android. IPad and iPhone owners using recent versions of iOS can now scroll through Kindle books, not just turn pages. Props to Amazon for heeding pleas from TeleRead and others.

Continuous Scrolling In Kindle

Users of the Kindle Android app can now join Kindle Fire tablet users and iOS users in scrolling their way through their latest books – well, most of them, anyway. This feature doesn’t work with PDF or fixed layout ebooks, just regular Kindle ebooks.

Even so, this is still a useful addition. I am reading a lot of non-fiction right now, and a single topic in a chapter might span 3 or 4 screens. With the scrolling feature I can quickly scan an entire topic without having to wait for the page turns.

I wish I had known my Kindle tablet supported this feature; it would have been so useful.

P.S. It’s not clear when this feature was added (the changelog for the last update mentioned only that you could store ebooks on your phone’s external storage) but in the past day or so users on MobileRead and elsewhere have reported that their devices had been updated, after which they were prompted to test the new feature.

Coincidentally, the Kindle app’s listing in Google Play does indicate that the app was updated on 2 January, but it still mentions the old changelog. Also, my app wasn’t updated, but I too have the feature, so we really don’t know when it was added.

My phone's Kindle app updated this morning and up popped a notice that it now has scrolling and it asked if I want to turn it on. I said yes and wallah! It scrolls! I love it.
I use the Kindle app as well as Moon+ on my phone and scrolling is the main reason I like Moon+. I don't let it scroll automatically. I just use my finger to go down the page as needed. Now my Kindle app does the same thing and I suspect I'll be using it more than Moon+. In the past I mostly used Moon+.
It's very smooth and there are no breaks between chapters. It treats the entire book as a single scrolling continuous page. I kind of like the chapter breaks in Moon+ but that's a small thing. They've done this very well in the Kindle app.
Next time I see Jeff Bezos (which will also be the first time) I'm going to shake his hand and give him my profuse thanks. Scrolling makes reading a lot more pleasant. I can thoughtlessly scroll while reading so there are no breaks in concentration.
Now if they could just do some magic and make my Paperwhite scroll.
